Choosing your stone
Each stone creates a different look. Use this as a quick guide.
| Feature | Look | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| White pebbles | Bright, crisp contrast | Borders, around dark paving, shaded corners |
| Grey pebbles | Calm, contemporary | Modern beds, paths, around concrete and steel |
| Brown pebbles | Warm, natural | Planted beds, around timber, rustic gardens |
| River stones | Smooth, rounded, larger | Dry river beds, drainage channels, water features |
| Gabions | Structured, natural stone walls | Retaining walls, seating, feature walls |
Every stone bed we install sits on weed barrier with edging, so it stays neat and the stones don't sink.
FAQ
Stone Landscaping & Design questions
How long does it take to build a gabion wall?
A garden-sized gabion wall can often be built in a few days. Larger retaining walls take longer because of groundwork and the volume of stone to place. We'll give you a timeline with your quote.
Do pebble beds need a weed barrier?
Yes. A weed barrier (geotextile) laid under the stones stops most weeds and keeps the pebbles from sinking into the soil, so the bed stays clean and level. Edging holds everything in place.
Which pebbles are best for a garden?
It depends on the look you want: white pebbles give crisp contrast against green plants and dark paving, grey pebbles suit modern gardens, and brown pebbles blend naturally with planting and timber. Larger river stones work well for dry river beds and borders. See the comparison on this page.
